The bill titled “The Organic Code of the Social Economy of Knowledge, Creativity and Innovation,” more widely known as the “Creativity Code” or the “Knowledge Code,” will be submitted to a referendum. The bill had been brought before the National Assembly in mid-2015 by the President of Ecuador, Rafael Correa.
In plenary session the National Assembly resolved to submit the bill to a “pre-legislative referendum” so that different representations and collectives of the population could voice their opinions on specific issues included in the bill that may objectively affect their collective rights as established in the Constitution.
If approved, the bill of law will replace Ecuador’s current Intellectual Property Law in full.
