After several months of work to obtain all permits and authorizations, Eastern Airlines started up operations in Uruguay on June 24, 2021.
At this initial stage, Eastern airlines will be operating the Miami-Montevideo route with two frequencies a week, carrying a maximum of 244 passengers each way. This was great news for Uruguay, since it had lost its direct connection with US.
The inaugural flight landed at the Carrasco International Airport at 5:50 p.m. and was welcomed with a traditional baptism of the aircraft under a “water bridge.” The reception was attended by national authorities of Tourism, Transport and Defense, as well as representatives of the National Directorate of Civil Aviation and Aeronautical Infrastructure, Carrasco Airport and the airline itself, along with the FERRERE team that collaborated on the launch.
With the new route, Eastern Airlines is striving to boost trade and tourism between the two cities. It is also considering increasing frequencies and including other destinations.
The new route is part of Eastern Airlines' growing connectivity with Miami and adds to the company's expansion of routes throughout Latin America. Eastern Airlines aims to provide flights to destinations that are typically underserved by international aviation companies. In fact, in December it added a direct route between Miami and Asunción (Paraguay), where the FERRERE team also provided advice.
In this context, the FERRERE partner Gianni Gutiérrez noted that, “it was great news that, in the midst of the pandemic, we were able to assist an airline that has allowed us to recover connectivity and aid in projecting the country once the emergency situation has passed.”
The FERRERE team was led by Gutiérrez and included a lineup of practitioners, among whom Laura Caffera, Carolina Piacenza, Antonella Carballo and José Fabeiro stand out.
