FERRERE has acted as counsel for pioneer company in nanotechnology Nanokem in the obtaining of its operating license from the Uruguayan Health Ministry.
The final license was granted on December 28. The company is starting production right away with a view to the Latin American market.
Nanokem is a Uruguayan company, leader in the application of state of the art technology to the manufacture of pharmaceutical products and a focus on cancer treatment products. It is one of the few companies worldwide that develops and synthesizes highly pure peptides using innovating synthesis processes (under a proprietary patent).
FERRERE advised Nanokem in the setting up and operation strategy to obtain the operating license from the Health Ministry. The main challenge was to look for paths in the current legal framework to classify the activities of a company with practically no precedent in the world.
Leticia Aguiar, member of the FERRERE team that assisted NANOKEM, says:
Nanokem es un cutting-edge technology lab that chose Uruguay to set up its operations. The sale of its products will help promote Uruguay as a world class technology seat. The main challenge for us was to design a strategy together with the company that allowed us to frame in the legal framework an activity that had no precedent in the country, or the region.
