The Municipality of Montevideo, in resolution 1361/020, has established new operating conditions in order to avoid agglomerations of people and to minimize the risk of COVID-19 contagion.   

ESTABLISHMENTS COVERED

The resolution applies to pharmacies, wholesale and retail supermarkets, hypermarkets, bakeries, fish markets, ice cream shops, butcher shops, kiosks, fairs, expo-fairs, offices and all similar establishments open to the public.  

PERIOD OF APPLICATION

Effective immediately and for the duration of the health emergency.

OPERATING MEASURES TO BE PUT IN PLACE

Distances: Clients as well as personnel must maintain a minimum distance of one and a half meters between persons.

Service during busiest hours: During the busiest hours all cash registers must be functioning.

Hygiene: On a daily basis the establishments covered by the resolution must clean the premises as well as the different items of equipment, utensils and devices they use. This means cleaning from floors and refrigerators to shopping carts and scales. Along the same line, hand sanitizer must be made available to customers, providing a minimum of one dispenser at each cash register.

Safety elements for personnel: Personnel must be provided with gloves, masks and hand sanitizer to optimize hygiene measures. Replacement of such elements as necessary must be guaranteed.

Trash: Trash bags must be replaced when they are 80% full. Such replacement must be made with a frequency in accordance with the volumes of trash generated. Trash must transported in carts, keeping container covers closed to avoid contact with personnel.

Items for mandatory sale: Pharmacies, wholesale and retail supermarkets, hypermarkets and similar establishments are required to sell: rectified alcohol, gel or spray alcohol, liquid soap, detergent, products containing sodium hypochlorite and personal hygiene products. 

Information to public: All commercial establishments must have signs indicating the hygiene measures established by the Ministry of Health.

Penalties:  Noncompliance with this resolution may give rise to fines varying according to the infractions committed (based on Decree 21,626).
