On January 30, 2024, Transparency International (TI) published its Corruption Perceptions Index (CPI) 2023. This study pointed out that Bolivia decreased its points compared to last year.
The score obtained in 2023 placed Bolivia in 137th place, while in 2022 it was in 126th place, according to TI.
The study conducted by TI mentions that one of the major problems in the region is the lack of independence of the Judiciary System, as it acts as a limit on the fight against corruption, not only in Bolivia but in the region.
Bolivia is questioned regarding the slowness of execution and development of its judicial processes, which leads them to believe that there are sufficient elements of acts of corruption. However, as mentioned by the CPI of the TI study, Bolivia in the last year, has proof its efforts in the fight against corruption and are being reflected.
Nonetheless, this does not mean that Bolivia should stop its efforts in its fight against corruption, since the score is still low, and it is still necessary to increase prevention strategies against corruption.
