Enrique Slekis

Enrique Slekis is an expert in Commercial Law, Startups and Venture Capital. He is a member of the Energy and Infrastructure team and has broad experience in regulatory matters, commercial contracts, M&A and project financing.

Enrique Slekis has been a member of FERRERE since 2012. He is currently part of the firm’s Corporate Governance and Infrastructure & Energy teams. As such, he provides day-to-day advice to companies, entrepreneurs and investors on corporate issues of varied complexity (share package sales and purchases, shareholder agreements, capital transactions, corporate conflicts, etc.) as well as on commercial contracts, regulatory issues and general corporate matters.

In the Infrastructure & Energy sector, for almost a decade Enrique Slekis has been advising on projects related to nontraditional renewable energies as well as production of green hydrogen. His practice in this sector specializes in contracts for supply, construction and O&M, M&A transactions and project financing.

In recent years, Enrique Slekis has received over fifteen mentions in Latin Lawyer for his participation in complex M&A and financing transactions whose aggregate value exceeds one billion dollars. Examples of these transactions include advice to ENERCON, the German wind generator manufacturer, on the sale of Uruguay’s largest windfarm (Peralta I & II), legal assistance to the Canadian pension fund Caisse de Dépôt et Placement du Québec (CDPQ), on a USD 279 million transaction that included high voltage lines and other assets in Uruguay, Brazil and Peru, and advice to IDB Invest on a loan for USD 88 million to AFISA to finance construction of a 365-kilometer high voltage line between Tacuarembó and Salto.

Another part of his practice centers on high-impact ventures and VC, where he advises startups, incubators, business angels and investment funds. He focuses on designing efficient corporate structures, preparing investment-related documents (SAFe, Convertible Notes, Term Sheets, Shareholder Agreements, etc.) and advice during investment rounds.

In this practice area he has advised multiple companies associated with the 4.0 Industry and Big Data, such as Uber, Google, SpaceX, IBM and Microsoft, among others, as well as regional funds and companies like Infocorp, Bankingly, IC Ventures, Paganza,  Doctari and Electroventas, among others. Additionally, thanks to his advisory capacity for Fundación Da Vinci, Endeavor (Uruguay) and the business angels network Xcala, Enrique Slekis is closely connected to the entrepreneur ecosystem.  

He earned his degree as attorney from Universidad de la República Oriental del Uruguay. He holds a Diploma in International and Comparative Law from the Academy of American and International Law, Southwestern Institute for International and Comparative Law” in Dallas, Texas, USA (2019). In 2022 he was appointed Professor of Commercial Obligations and Contracts at Universidad Católica del Uruguay.
