Ernesto Lago De Avila Is a member of the FERRERE Litigation team in Montevideo.
His practice focuses on advice and assistance to local and international clients on civil liability and insolvency litigation, as well as banking responsibility and secrecy matters.
He is technical assistant to the Office of Judge Ricardo Pérez Manrique of the Inter-American Court of Human Rights, in Montevideo.

He has specialized training in International Human Rights Law and freedom of expression. He has participated in technical consultancies for Mirador DESCA of the National Human Rights Institution and Office of the Ombudsperson, related to environment and human rights, in particular on recommendations to Uruguay by the Committee on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights and the Working Group of the Protocol of San Salvador.

He has also conducted studies and research on the relationship between companies and human rights, and has collaborated on the subject of the Inter-American Human Rights System at the School of Law and Liberal Arts of Universidad Católica del Uruguay.
Since 2022 he has collaborated on the inheritance section of Anuario Uruguayo Crítico de Derecho de Familia y Sucesiones (Uruguayan Annual Family Law and Inheritance Review).

In 2026 he participated in the first edition of the Tatiana Fellowship on the Rule of Law, an initiative organized by the World Jurist Association, Fundación Tatiana and the Inter-American Court of Human Rights, focusing on thought and exploration of the relationship between leadership, Rule of Law and democracy.

He is currently completing an LL.M. in International Human Rights and Humanitarian Law at American University Washington College of Law.
