Gianni Gutiérrez heads the FERRERE tax team. He participates on tax structuring and design for the most important businesses handled by the firm.
His professional activity ranges from structuring of mergers and acquisitions to design of financial products, and from real estate developments to personal wealth planning.
He has successfully led the defense of some of the most significant disputes instituted by the Uruguayan tax authority against credit, financial and farming concerns.
His experience also includes corporate advice in different areas. Gutiérrez has been an attorney for Archer Daniels Midland for twelve years and collaborates on its business in Uruguay. For that firm as well as other clients, he has handled a variety of complex matters including a free trade zone port concession, grain hedging, the setup of an airline company in Uruguay and financial trust.
He is an associate professor of Taxes at Universidad ORT and professor in the Executive Program at the same university. He has coauthored five books on tax matters: El Fideicomiso. Aspectos legales, tributarios y contables (Trusts. Legal, tax and accounting aspects); El contribuyente frente a la Inspección Fiscal, fourth edition, (Taxpayers Facing Tax Inspections); Carta de Derechos del contribuyente (The Taxpayer’s Bill of Rights), and Conjuntos económicos. Enfoque Tributario (Economic groups. Tax focus); Límites a la Creación y Recaudación de Impuestos. El Control del Gasto Público.
In 2012 he provided consultancy for the Tax Studies Center of Uruguay on the system for settlement of disputes between the Tax Authority and taxpayers (www.cef.org.uy). He has published dozens of specialized articles in local and regional technical reviews.
He counsels the nonprofit organization “Un techo para mi país,” which develops and builds housing solutions for families facing social emergencies, and Fundación Gonzalo Rodríguez, a foundation that works to improve the quality of life of Uruguayan children and young people, conducting programs that use sports as a means of education, development and social inclusion.
