Manuel Lecuona is an expert in mergers and acquisitions and in corporate conflicts. He co-leads the Company and Corporate Law practice, and is a member of the Energy and Infrastructure team.
Manuel Lecuona is a member of the Company and Corporate Law and Energy and Infrastructure teams. He provides advice on merger and acquisition processes, and is also involved in corporate litigation and conflicts.
For several years Manuel Lecuona has been advising local and multinational companies with interests in Uruguay. In recent years his professional performance has garnered thirty mentions by Latin Lawyer for his participation in complex transactions, including the acquisition by the world mining giant VALE of Río Tinto’s operations in Uruguay, and the purchase by a multinational firm of the Uruguayan paper producer Fanapel. He participated on the team that advised Dufry on acquisition of free shops at Uruguayan airports in the context of a US$ 957 million regional transaction.
He recently participated in the acquisition of a first-class bank, as well as in various risk capital transactions. He frequently advises clients involved in port and logistics activities.
In the corporate conflicts area he has handled many conflicts among shareholders or between shareholders and directors, with a high success rate and client satisfaction.
In recent years he has played a relevant role in the energy sector, leading various projects related to installation of renewable energy ventures. In this sector he participates on a regular basis in advising the German firm Enercon. In the traditional energy area Manuel provides on-going assistance to Petrobras, both on transactions involving fuel distribution and in the gas sector.
He has published scholarly articles and has been a professor of Company Law and Corporate Finance at Universidad ORT Uruguay since 2009.
In 2015 he was also appointed professor of Commercial Contract Law at Universidad de Montevideo.
