Laura Caffera is a member of FERRERE’S Tax and Customs team. In her 20 years of professional development at FERRERE she has accrued broad experience in advising local and foreign clients engaging in a wide range of businesses. She specializes in consultancy on customs, tax and general corporate matters to local and multinational companies with business in Uruguay, from the organization process through day-to-day operations.
She advises companies engaging in diverse activities including: logistics and transportation, customs procedures, real estate, food industry, and wind energy. She has also advised companies such as: Abbot, Bayer, Biogen, Diageo, Glaxo, Herbalife, IBM, McCain, Nestlé, Nike, Nuvó and Suzlon. Laura Caffera counsels Archer Daniels Midland (one of the world’s largest food suppliers and agricultural processors), collaborating actively on all of the day-to-day transactions of the company and its affiliates in Uruguay and abroad, as well as on complex projects, for example: concession of a new port grain terminal at the Nueva Palmira free trade zone, installation of a grain processing plant, redesign of logistics structure, etc.
She has also participated in the structuring and development of real estate projects; installation of air transport companies; matters in the insurance sector; and wind energy generation projects, etc.
She has provided pro bono advice to organizations such as Liceo Jubilar, CEPRODHI, and Fundación Corazoncitos. She was recognized by Chambers 2017 in the Tax area. The publication cites clients as being impressed by her exhaustive and proactive approach.
Since 2010 she has been an instructor in Taxes at Universidad ORT (Uruguay) and participates as instructor in specialized customs courses.
She is co-author of Código Aduanero de la República Oriental del Uruguay. Comentado y Concordado (The Uruguayan Customs Code. Annotated Version) and has published other works in her area of specialization.
