The FERRERE partner, and leader of its insurance and reinsurance practice in Uruguay, Geraldine Ifrán, was recognized as “Latin America Insurance & Reinsurance Lawyer of the Year” in the Women in Business Law Awards 2026.

This is the second consecutive distinction for Ifrán, who in last year’s edition (as in 2018) was recognized as Latin America Corporate & Acquisitions Lawyer of the Year. In addition to working in the two areas, Ifrán is regional coordinator of FERRERE’S Pro Bono practice.

Geraldine, with over 30 years of professional experience, has participated in many of the most relative insurance transactions in the Uruguayan market, advising leading companies in the international market about setting up in the country and obtaining their operating licenses, as well as on mergers and acquisitions processes.

She is also president of the Uruguayan Section of the International Insurance Law Association (AIDA) for the 2023-2028 period. Additionally, she is a member of the Lawyers Commission of the Uruguayan Association of Insurance Companies (AUDEA), where she participates in drafting laws for the sector and in related debates with the regulatory authority. Geraldine is also exclusive member for Uruguay of the network of insurance law firms INSURALEX.

She is the author of two books on regulatory issues: Curso de Derecho de Seguros (on insurance law), and El Seguro de Vida (on life insurance). Ifrán is an instructor in the Insurance Technician Program organized jointly by the National Chamber of Commerce and Services of Uruguay (CNCS), AUDEA, and Banco de Seguros del Estado (BSE, the state-owned insurer). She is also professor in the Graduate Program in Insurance Law, offered jointly by Universidad de Montevideo (Uruguay) and Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile (Chile).

In the context of these awards, FERRERE’s Raquel Molina was also recognized as Latin America Arbitration Rising Star.

The Women in Business Law Awards recognize the achievements of the top women lawyers in the Americas, as well as the firms undertaking the best initiatives and actions to address gender diversity.

These recognitions are awarded in association with several of the most renowned international publications, including International Financial Law Review (IFLR), International Tax Review (ITR) and Managing IP.
