Geraldine has extensive experience advising on high-profile foreign investment projects, as well as domestic and cross-border mergers and acquisitions.
Her recent experience includes advising:
- TIGO (Millicom) on the acquisition of Telefónica Uruguay for USD 440 million.
- The French NGE Group on the acquisition of SACEEM, Uruguay’s leading construction company.
- Bimbo on the acquisition of Pagnifique, Uruguay’s leading frozen bakery products group.
- Paraguayan group Vierci on the acquisition of the leading local supermarket and pharmacy chains owned by Argentine group GDN.
- Barbuss Group on the acquisition of the Uruguayan insurance company of German group HDI/Talanx.
- Navios Group, one of the world’s leading shipping companies, with operations in Uruguay and the region, on the issuance of USD 400 million in bonds in the Norwegian market.
- Itaú on the acquisition of a stake in Uruguayan fintech Handy.
Geraldine also advises a wide range of corporations on their strategic and corporate matters in Uruguay, including Avolta (Dufry), Bimbo, GlobalLogic (Hitachi), IBM, James Fisher Fendercare, Logicalis, Navios and Nufarm. In the insurance and reinsurance sector, she advises, among others, HDI, Mapfre, Marsh, MetLife, Liberty Mutual, San Cristóbal, SBI and Zurich.
Geraldine is a professor of M&A at Universidad de Montevideo (undergraduate level). She also teaches in the Graduate Program in Insurance Law, jointly endorsed by Universidad de Montevideo and Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile.
She is the author of books on regulation, Curso de Derecho de Seguros (Insurance Law Course, 2006) and El Seguro de Vida (Life Insurance, 2008); coordinator and co-author of La Ley de Seguros en Uruguay (Insurance Law in Uruguay, 2024); and co-author of La regulación y supervisión de los seguros en Colombia e Iberolatinoamérica (Insurance Regulation and Supervision in Colombia and Ibero-Latin America, 2026).
She also serves as President of the Uruguayan section of the International Association of Insurance Law (AIDA) for the 2023–2028 term.
She is widely recognized by leading international publications (Chambers, Legal 500, Latin Lawyer and IFLR). In addition, in the Women in Business Law Awards, she was named Latin America’s best corporate lawyer in 2025 and best Insurance and reinsurance lawyer in 2026.
