On September 10, 2024, Uruguay’s Parliament approved a bill of law regulating virtual assets, which amends current provisions for formally recognizing virtual assets, equating them regulatorily with paperless securities.

This bill also includes Virtual Asset Service Providers (VASPs) within the regulatory and supervisory sphere of the Central Bank of Uruguay (BCU), in the category of reporting agents for the control and prevention of asset laundering.
